We probably are not the first to admit, but choosing a dog breed can be a bit on the complicated side. You have the sporting breeds, large breeds, small breeds and so on. For starters, what size of home do you live in? If you have a small home, then it may not be a good idea to pick a dog that is large as the large dog likes to be in a big area.
There are many small breeds out there that you can choose from. If you live in a big home, then it would be fine to pick a large dog.
Do you have kids who are living with you? If so, then choosing the small breed may not be such a swell idea. Why? This is because small breeds are fragile and they are easy to hurt. Your child could accidentally hurt the dog.
At the same time, no matter what, small or large, you need to supervise your children with the dog. This is to protect not only the child, but the dog as well. Children often times do things that frustrate a dog, so you should watch for those warning signs.
No matter what, you need to make sure you are ready to take care of the responsibility that comes with owning a dog. If you choose a long hair breed, then he or she will obviously need more grooming.
