How to Deal with Your Dogs Inappropriate Elimination
A very common problem that dog owners are experiencing with their beloved pets is inappropriate elimination. Usually the main reason that there are so many dogs in the animal shelter is because of urination and defecation problems that their dogs experience.
In order to effectively solve the problem of inappropriate elimination, it’s critically important that you first diagnose the main reason for the problem. By doing this you can then take special measures towards fixing the problem once and for all.
One of the common problems that cause your dog to inappropriately eliminate is excitement. Even well trained dogs can succumb to this problem from time to time. You’ll find that older dogs are also very susceptible to pee when excited. You puppies may also suffer from this problem, when they get excited while playing they won’t even know they have had an accident.
If your puppy has an accident while excited, don’t punish him for t. Doing this is confusing for your puppy and may lead to submissive urination. As your puppy grows up he will learn better bladder control and this will put a stop to a lot of the inappropriate elimination problems.
The easiest way to put an end to excitement elimination is by stopping your dog from getting too excited. You can do this by playing in milder manners, and reducing the intensity of play when things start getting out of hand.
The next problem is called submissive urination, where the dog feels he must submit to the stronger leader by urinating and showing himself as the weaker pack member. In this case the owner becomes the pack leader and the dog is showing that he is the weaker member.
Submissive urination is in many cases due to mistreatment of the dog at some stage in its life - most likely via physical abuse. Its actually not a problem that your dog is submissive, only in the way he’s displaying it. Try to teach your dog other ways to show his submissiveness. One example is to get your dog to lick your hand - this is a common way dogs demonstrate that they see you as the alpha dog.
The easiest way to get your dog to stop submissively urinating is to ignore the problem. Your dog will then gain confidence and quite quickly cure himself. Your dog needs to feel comfortable in the house and if he feels he’s messed up every time he pee’s his confidence will plummet.
Inappropriate elimination is a serious problem and not always easy to solve. If you are willing to be persistent and stick at your training regime you will get results. In the case that you don’t get good results, take your dog to a vet or consider using a professional dog training guide.
