Golden Retriever Training: Dog Pulling Solution

Given the appropriate golden retriever training, golden retrievers definitely make fantastic guide dog for the blind and hearing dog for deaf people. Lots of them are also used to hunt, to find illegal drugs and to take part in search and rescue missions. But while they are popular for their great work ethics along with their thinking ability, things may not always come out as you expected. Problems could occur at some point in time whether you like it or not. That’s why as canine owner, you should always be persistent, determined and resourceful in looking for means to get rid of the predicament.

One problem that’s popular not merely among golden retrievers but other breeds as well is the pulling on leash. Though a seemingly simple problem, it is crucial that you take necessary measures to solve it otherwise experience a dog weighing approximately 55 to 75 pounds pull you on the road when you went out to walk.

Before you went out of the doorway to savor the early morning sunlight, make sure that he’s calm. Instead of going to him to get ready for the walk, call him to come to you and attach his leash. Go out of the door before him. If he went out before you, go back and command him to sit or anything to calm him down. When walking, bear in mind that you always need to be ahead or beside him, not behind him. Leaders are usually in front of the pack, right?

Immediately after he starts to pull the leash, stop right away despite his best effort to move. Resume the walk only if he has calmed down. If he continues pulling, stop and walk in the opposite direction. The general rule of this specific golden retriever training is to make him figure out that you’re the one who determine when and where to go and that he must keep his focus on you to determine where the next destination is.

Motivate good behavior by rewarding him each time he shows one. Lavish him with praise every time he moves forward and a treat once in a while won’t hurt too. By being a patient and consistent dog owner, your pet will soon learn that a good dog does not pull on the leash when walking.

Why 4 To 8 Dog Agility Jumps Are Ideal

So how many jumps should you start with? Well, when practicing agility you can never have too many single jumps. But we do not recommend less than four jumps as a beginning point for good agility training.

With four jumps you can learn your dog a lot of different skills, exercises and drills. With this number of jumps you can work on jump grid and short jump chute. It is also possible to setup a “box”, so you can practice collection, handling and 270 degree jumps.

You can teach your dog jumping left and right. You can be outside the box and send your dog or you can handle from the inside of the box. Your jumps can be setup in a horizontal line, so that you can practice serpentines and treadles.

The next step in the training is eight jumps. Here you can setup two boxes and one opening jump. Now you have multiplied the maneuvers that you can train with your dog. The jump grids can be of suggested size and number of jumps.

Another variation is to setup the jumps in a circle with jump bars vertical to the circle or on the edge of the circle. This variation can teach the dog a lot of new skills.

Now you can think about double and triple jumps. You can choose to setup two or even three single jumps to make your extended jump, but the real value of practice comes when doubling or tripling the jumps. You see it every time; the dog runs a clean course until the last triple jump obstacle, and then the dog is not ready for it. The result: the bar comes down.

Two sets of eight jumps will really set you ahead of the pack. It is the ultimate in practrice because you can have a jump grip up that is separate from your course training, and have eight single jumps for course training. And when you then include the double and triple jumps, you can really train all the jumping skills and drills needed to get you those “Qs”.

Don’t make him feel resentment and aggression. And don’t convey the feeling that the crate is a place for punishment.

While crate training beagles, make the kennel a fun place to remain inside. Don’t ignore the advice of trained professionals and expert trainers. They tell you not to send your pet inside a crate when they misbehave, because your puppy will soon regard that act as a punishment for bad behavior - and then rebel. They may even worsen the situation by barking or biting when forced to do so.

One more mistake is leaving your pup inside a crate for a long period of time. While you may be busy and prefer your dog to remain locked up inside a kennel, the puppy isn’t ready for this and becomes restless after 30 minutes or so. When you are starting out crate training, keep your pup inside for 15 minutes, then let him out. Repeat this process often, increasing the time inside the kennel gradually over time.

Make the kennel cozy for your dog. After all, it’s his home. Put an old towel or worn out blanket on the floor. Wash the cloth frequently to prevent it from smelling bad. If the beagle chews it up, replace it promptly. Leave a treat inside the crate for him, as a gift for staying in it. This makes your pet look forward to going inside.

Natural Homemade Dog Treats For The Dog In Your Life

Even though commercial pet feed is more convenient nowadays, more and more people still find time to prepare natural dog treats for their pets. Why is that? It is because it will be better for the health of the canines (even humans for that matter) if there are less chemicals and preservatives in the food we take in.

The great thing about this is that homemade dog treats are really not as difficult as it would initially seem to be. If you have a picture in your mind of a dirty kitchen strewn with pots and pans of messy, canine food-that’s not an accurate idea. Actually, if you prepare and plan it well, making these delicious treats should be pretty simple and fuss-free.

OK, let’s begin. You might be asking– what should I know about natural dog treats? Well, before anything else, understand that natural does not mean you can feed anything that grows out of a plant or ground to the animal. There are some things that might be beneficial to human beings but are really bad for the canine.

For example-the tomato plant. Did you know that this healthy vegetable contains atropine which causes irregular heartbeat, tremors and dilated pupils? Atropine is highest in the tomato’s stems and leaves; which is followed by the tomato itself. Do not give your pet food that will require tomatoes in its recipe.

Some of the fruit you have in your kitchen may also be harmful for him. Cherries, apples and apricots have seeds which contain cyanogenic glycosides. This can bring about cyanide poisoning which needless to say, is dangerous for the animal. Grapes and avocados will induce vomiting and diarrhea because they also contain risky substances that can severely damage tissues and critical organs in the canine’s body.

When looking for food to give to your pet, always check the ingredients if it contains the stuff that can harm him. Don’t be discouraged by the number of things you are not able to use-there are so much more possible food to choose from. You can create some really great snacks when you get down to it. These delicacies are an excellent method to reward him for good behavior and perfectly executed commands.

Now, what are some of the things that we can serve the dog? Generally, all kinds of meat are fine– just make sure you chop them up well. If you are cooking them, remove the bones because they present a choking hazard to the animal. Organ meat in small quantities are beneficial to their health. Make use of healthy vegetables like corn, green beans, and carrots as well.

Remember, homemade dog treats doesn’t have to be boring. Make them more interesting by adding flavor and other yummy ingredients mixed into it. Take care that you do not over feed them though because obesity has hampered the health of many canines. Exercise careful thought in preparing your dog’s meals– and discover a healthier and happier pet when you do.

Dog agility training classes usually last one hour, once a week over a span of six weeks. Your dog will be asked to warm-up and play first as a means of getting it ready for the training ahead.

Then the real “work” begins as the dog handlers call their dogs’ attention. Agility dog training usually starts with jump training - depending on how advanced your dog is, it could be asked to do small jumps, or to hurdle higher obstacles in the more advanced classes.

Dog agility training can be fun for you as the owner, but it can also be a lot of hard work when it comes to getting your dog to follow commands. And as an incentive for your dog to gently and eventually comply, doggy treats are a great way to encourage them onwards.
