Remember How to Spell German Shepherds Right

by Patti Benashe

I was amused to find out that about one in any 3 folks spell the word German Shepherd mistakenly, calling them German Shepards rather. I’m shocked that this word is so regularly misspelled, and I am even more stunned to learn that I spelled it this way for so loads of years.

I despise spelling words wrong and I consistently try to avoid it. I’m always careful to make certain that I’m on point with my spelling, although like just about any individual, sometimes I simply slip up. The good thing is that I have an easy way to bear in mind how to properly spell this breed of dog the right way.

Follow my little procedure here & you most certainly will always recall that it’s not German Shepards, rather shepherds.

Remember back to why this breed of dog was bred and perhaps you’ll already figure it out. The German Shepherd was created as a labor dog, & it was only in the late 1890s that this dog came to life.

Folks in Germany desired a canine to help herd sheep. Remember the words herd and sheep now, and then reverse them. You do not think of the German Shepards (I’m kidding) presently as sheep herding canines, as they’re normally used by law enforcement to fight crime, in airports to sniff out drugs, & in other situations that rely on the dog’s strong olfactory senses.

This, though, is why they had been bred, and remembering this ought to make it much easier to spell the word accurately.

As long as you attempt to keep this in mind every time you write or type out the word, I suppose you’ll get it correct from here. Don’t feel too badly about it since 1 in 3 folks do write it incorrectly.

I hope this has been helpful. Here’s to some spelling successes down the line when it comes to this fantastic variety of canine.
