As a dog owner, you may have to address many problems with your dog. Common problems include jumping on other people, digging, and also barking.

There is no best way to solve these issues except to prevent them before they even happen. In order to accomplish that, start training your dog when he is still a puppy. You want them to be obedient and exhibit the proper behavior with consistent reinforcement.

One very big training issue that can come up is dog chasing. Dog chasing can be quite dangerous to both the dog as well the people being chased. Fortunately, there are a couple of methods that can be used to stop dog chasing. Though, it is important to take note that if you want to successfully stop this problem, you need to be consistent regardless of what method you choose to use.

How To Stop Dog Chasing

1 way for stopping dog chasing a car is to make sure that you do not leave the dog outside unsupervised and without a leash. You should never allow a dog to run freely outside because he can cause danger to himself and others once he is near the road.

Perhaps you are living in a rural area and you think it will be alright to leave your dog outside since there won’t be so many cars around. Well, the answer is, even if you are living in a rural area, you should still train your dog to stay inside his territory. You will not want your dog to jump onto the road and meet with an accident. Another reason why you want to train your dog to stay inside the territory is because you don’t want your dog to start chasing other people who happen to come near its territory.

If the dog can be allowed to chase other animals or people, it can be very dangerous to the dog himself as well as the people or animals being chased. Also, this might lead to an aggressive dog, certainly not the type of behavior that any dog owners will want in their dogs.

When the dog is chasing the owner, playing with him, the owner should not give the dog any reinforcement of that behavior. Even though playing chase can be fun, it creates aggressive behavior in the dog as well as the chasing behavior that the owner would not want to occur around visitors to the home.

In order to stop chasing behavior in your dog, don’t ever run away from your dog when it is chasing you. What you should do instead is to back face your dog and refuse to give him any attention when it is trying to chase you. Only when the dog calm down do you start giving him attention and praising him.

Another way to help to reinforce good behavior and stop dog chasing is to tell the dog to sit when it is starting the chase behavior. When the dog sits, the owner should give it attention so that the positive behavior is reinforced and the negative behavior is avoided.
